| Discover fraud prevention is freaky fast |
[Sep. 9th, 2009|06:57 pm] |
I'll make this quick because it's hard to type while on the PA turnpike. Yesterday I was in a Home Depot in Boston. I had just swiped my Discover card to pay and was walking away from the cashier when my phone buzzed and I had an email from Discover fraud prevention. I call them, and they ask if I just made a purchase at that Boston Home Depot... from swipe, to email in my phone....3 seconds W T F |

last weekend Sarah and I saw Slumdog Millionaire....it was really well done, and I highly recommend it to anyone who's ever wondered what life is like in a place far removed from how life is here in the US. afterwards though...the movie left me...i dunno, unsettled. I found it a lot easier to emathize with the protagonists than I normally do with movie or tv characters, but I couldn't figure why. Maybe they were just far better actors than I'm used to. Or maybe I associate with indian people far more than white people. anyway, that was rolling around my head for a day or two before I realized what it was that was getting at me. (slight spoiler) I've been in an indian street, surrounded by tiny, tiny children with their hands either outstretched or grabbing at my pockets...i've seen blind children singing with pans in their hands...i've had beggars knock on the windows of the car I was in, gesturing at their mouths. I kinda sickened me to think about how many people i've seen that may have had lives like that of the characters in that movie...to see that far into even a damatized life like that...well, it just left me unsettled. I guess I'll leave it at that.
on a lighter side, the weekend before we saw Coraline in 3D, which was both amazing looking with the 3D and all, and ridiculously creepy. thumbs up to that one as well.
and last but not least, in more recent news, today CBS news interviewed my boss. Then they had us sorta act out putting together one of the radar trailers. End result, there's a strong possibility that I'll be on national tv this coming Tuesday for the 6pm news (but I don't know what time zone that's referring to)...i've already set the DVR to record everything newsish on CBS from 5 till 8, just to be safe.
and that's all...i've been fighting an unpleasant cold the last few days but I think i'll be good as new tomorrow or the next day...just in time for the weekend :/ whee. |

So since the 11th I've been on the road...I had 3 days in Calgary, and then since then I've been either in Seattle or Oak Harbor Washington.( i meant to cut this before )
and for the grand finale they hired some guys to fly that remote control plane around in front of the radar...unfortunately it was cloudy and I had work to do, so I didn't get any good pictures of it in flight D:

So for xmas my dad told me the 5k he loaned me for my car should not be repaid to him, but instead go into my IRA. On the giving front, the major gits were a fancy swimsuit to my sister from victoria's secret that she was nice enough to pick out in advance, some wooden/wicker folding chairs for the dining room, and a logitech harmony 880 for my parents.
what'd you guys get/give this year? anything notable? |

So last week I got to go to Florida for work. Unfortunately I was sick for most of it. But it wasn't all bad. We did escape one night and went to see what there was to see. Panama City, FL is a ghost town in December, so we had a minigolf course to ourselves... ( cut for your pleasure ) |

Apparently a transformer went out by my building on friday. When I got back to CU I walked past said transformer and below it there was a dead squirrel. I suspect that this squirrel got a taste for wires from my car, and then when my car was gone, went for the main course up in the power lines and ZAP! ahh, one less threat to my car |
